Caralluma Fimbriata History ...
In tribal India, Caralluma Fimbriata is a vegetable that is used
daily. It can be eaten in several forms, such as cooked as a regular
vegetable with spices and salt. It is even eaten raw, but this
succulent is often used in preserves such as pickles and chutneys.
Indian tribals will chew pieces of the Caralluma Fimbriata as a
method of suppressing hunger when they are on a hunt. Tribesmen
who are out on long journeys will pack only Caralluma Fimbriata
and use it to quench their thirst as well as provide endurance
enhancement. The labor classes of South India use it to suppress
appetite and increase endurance.
The Indian Health Ministry's compilation on medicinal plants, "Wealth
of India," lists the vegetable Caralluma Fimbriata as a famine
food.
Caralluma Fimbriata Usage ...
While Caralluma Fimbriata has many properties that make it able
to sustain a population, it is finding use in weight reduction
products. There are certain elements within the vegetable that
prevent fat accumulation. It does this by blocking citrate lyase.
A remarkable aspect of this plant is that it has shown the ability
to cause weight loss in humans, but it does not stimulate the central
nervous system. It also suppresses the appetite which causes a
reduction in food intake.
Research in the various elements found within the plant are guiding
its use to lean more towards treatment for obesity, but it also
has shown an increase in the accessibility of serotonin in isolated
rat brain cortex. This could affect satiety as well as help to
ward off depression that is often accompanied with dieting and
weight loss efforts.
Caralluma Fimbriata Research ...
A clinical study performed on the Caralluma Fimbriata regarding
its level of safety for human consumption in a weight loss product
involved a sample of 50 overweight or obese subjects with a BMI
greater than 26. In the study, 25 of the subjects received the
active compound and 25 received a placebo. No changes were made
to the subjects' diets, but they were advised to walk for 30 minutes
a day. In the 8 week period of the study, there was no evidence
shown to indicate an overall toxicity from the extract.
A second study was conducted in California with 26 overweight
patients. Performed at the Western Geriatric Research Institute,
the study involved 19 of the subjects on the active compound and
7 on the placebo. More than 60% of the subjects who took the extract
lost a minimum of 6 pounds within the month. This study supports
the assertion that Caralluma Fimbriata is effective in weight loss.
Additionally, it also backed up the results of the previous study
concerning the extract's safety. This study, as with the first,
experienced no serious adverse events.
Caralluma Fimbriata Evidence of use ...
As Caralluma Fimbraita has become more widely known and used,
it has encouraged more studies. Several studies have been conducted
to determine the plant's safety and its effectiveness in resolving
certain conditions, including weight loss. It has been shown to
suppress the appetite and reduce the waist circumference. The decrease
in body weight, however, is just a little more in the Caralluma
group than in the placebo, while the waist circumference was significantly
more in the Caralluma group than in the placebo.
This plant's uses include as a food source, appetite suppressant,
increase energy and even to treat diabetes. Several weight loss
products use Caralluma as the weight loss component in their supplements
with positive results.
Caralluma Fimriata Safety ...
Caralluma has been shown to have very minimal side effects. In
several clinical studies, the only side effect reported was minor
gastrointestinal upset. Some flatulence was also reported, but
side effects decrease or disappeared within a week of continued
use. Overall, the product was found to have very few adverse side
effects and was pleasant to take.
Caralluma could be the next hoodia in weight loss products, only
it promises to be even better. Preliminary clinical studies and
research show that is it more effective than other weight loss
ingredients. Only time will tell, but this product seems to have
a strong start right out of the gate.
